Butterfly Garden

I'm so excited to share this card with you! It's much simpler than most of my cards, but there is one element on it that I struggled with, that ended up turning out really pretty.
This card is for the SCS LoveFest "Bring on the Bling!" Challenge, sponsored by Stamping Bella (LOVEFEST2013C). My "bling" is technically the flower rhinestones under the sentiment, but, to me, the three-dimensional butterfly is WAY bling-ier! ;)

This butterfly flew all over my craft room looking for a place to light. It started off as a one-dimensional creature, stamped in brown, and colored with Copics. Then, I colored another one and cut the individual wings out on both butterflies. I used a stylus to give them some dimension, then glued them, one set on top of the other, just where they would connect at the body. I put foam dots under the top wings to keep them raised. Then, I stamped the butterfly in brown, again, onto a die cut that I had sponged with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, colored the wings on that butterfly, and colored the body brown. I glued the fussy cut wings on top, popping up the middle layer with foam dots. My original intention was to add the entire die cut with the butterfly on it, to a card front. But, I couldn't figure out a way to do it that would look good. So, I finally cut around the butterfly, leaving the popped up wings attached, and eliminating the die cut altogether. But, what to do with it? Then, I found this beautiful dp in an old paper pad and the flowers were the exact proportions I needed to use with the butterfly. So, I embossed the sentiment and the butterfly on the dp in black, added Glossy Accents over the body, then glued the wings in place over it. The butterfly doesn't look much like the original stamp since you can't see the stamp lines after coloring it, but I love the soft look of the wings.

I added a die cut butterfly to the inside, and used red Stickles on it to coordinate with the red rhinestones on the front of the card. The black dots are made with a Pearl Pen.

Just one more challenge to go for the SCS Love Fest!!! I better hurry, the challenge ends in less than 24 hours!

Thanks for stopping by today!
